Short Story Assignment Part #1

The time period of my story is 1939-1943. The location of my short story is going to be in Germany during World War Two. The setting is going to be in Hitler's house in Germany during the world war. The reason why I chose this setting is because it is vital to my story. In my short story Hitler who was in charge of the Germany at the time, is actually Satan incarnate. The reason why I chose Hitler's house is because I just imagine Hitler sitting in his house receiving the news of the war he brought upon himself. Satan being a powerful and influential being I could not imagine him being anyone else besides Hitler, and Hitler being the leader of a whole nation would put people in charge to do his dirty work. That is why he is sitting in his house getting updates of the war from his posse. Another reason why the setting is Hitler's Germany is because, during that time period Jews were being killed left and right. This is important because Satan is mad at the Jews for being God's chosen people, so he killed all of the Jews in the form of Adolf Hitler.

The Devil in my story is far from the Devil's in The Bible, and Paradise Lost. But you could make the argument that he is like the Devil in "Sympathy for the Devil". The Satan in "Sympathy for the Devil" seems as though he is the actual people he is talking about. For example:

I stuck around St. Petersburg
When I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the Czar and his ministers
Anastasia screamed in vain
I rode a tank
Held a General's rank
When the Blitzkrieg raged
And the bodies stank

In this part of the song it seems as though he did the deeds himself. In The Bible Satan is more of a tempter rather than an actual deed doer like he is in my story. In Paradise Lost Satan is a leader who seems almost "good" and misunderstood. Like my story he is a leader but is neither good or misunderstood, what you see is what you get. Satan looks bad, acts bad which in my story means he is bad. In my story Satan is extracting revenge on the Jewish race, because of God's love for them. He does so by almost killing the entire Jewish population throughout Europe.

My Definition of Art

I feel that my definition of the purpose of art was very accurate. My description of the purpose of art is:
-To stress or show attachment to an event
-Show emotion
-To show opinion
-To further enrich culture
-To show religious views
-To show what is going on in the world
-Imagination
-Shows values of the time period
This list of different purposes for art shows all of the things that I think art is, and how it can be used. There are many pieces of art that i think serve as evidence for the purposes that i have I have just listed. One being Andrea Bocelli singing Time to say Goodbye.

One other song I think is defenatly  great piece of art is Luciano Pavarotti singing Ave Maria. The reason why I picked these two musicians is because, they both show religious views, and also they show their emotion in the songs. The words of each song can speak to many people in different ways, they also speak to these two amazing men. Another piece of art that I find exceptionable is the painting of the Last Supper. This painting show the relationship between Jesus and his Disciples, and how all the disciples were in one accord. It also shows how all people are loved by Jesus the same no matter what they have done or will do.  It also shows how Jesus lived among the sinners but was still perfect in every way.

Chaucer's Pilgrims

My favorite pilgrim is defiantly the Knight. The Knight is always fighting and standing up for what he believes. The Knight goes far and wide to slay dragons and opposing army's and soldiers. One of the main reasons why I like this character more than the others is because, it relates to my childhood. When I was a kid all I did was watch castle movies, that had Knights and Squires in them73. I used to run around with my cousin and pretend that I was a Knight going to slay a dragon (kind of like Don Queote). The knight is the best.

I think out of all the characters the Monk would have endured the longest. I think if he concentrated more on religion he would become a good Monk. But if religion didn't work out then he could always become a big game hunter. Seeing as all he is good at is Hunting then the second route would be the better choice for him.

Anglo-Saxon Boast Assignment

Challenge Description:
My challenge is when I play soccer. I play my game, when I play my game I win not matter what. I am the goal- saver, I snag a shot upper 90. I will win every game.

Challenge:

I am the goal-saver, I stop whatever you put in front of me. You take a shot I'll stop you, you’re on a break-away I'll stop you no matter what I'll stop you. I'm like a magnet whatever you do I'll get the ball. I’m a beast you let me out of my cage you can’t stop me, I run up and down that field to make a save.

I’m the best no matter what I can’t be stopped, I sacrifice myself to make a save. I go up for a ball offering you my knee for compensation, for some reason you don’t want it. I’m the best you’ve ever seen.

I’m the goal-scorer, I take shots all day, and I’ll pull a Joey D every game. I dribble through you like a bunch of tackling dummies. Your goalie tries to stop me, but I told you I’m the best I can’t be stopped. Like Pele Jr. I the best you’ve seen so be ready cause there’s a storm coming and it ain’t gonna be pretty.

After Revisions Journal Entry

Question:
Take a few minutes to consider the culture of the time and country in which we live.  What are the core values that define our culture and way of life?  If someone chose to study our history and stories in a thousand years, what ideas would stand out to them?  In your blog entry, name and describe the values that are most important to the people of the United States in 2011.
Answer:
The core values and standards that all human beings have are Truth, Religious Views, and Family Standards. It is frowned upon in today society if someone tells a lie or is not truthful with their words. Almost everyone in the world has a different religious view than another person or group (i.e. Muslims and Christians). Family standards are at a high praise in today's society,  children are expected to respect their mother and father, and the parents are supposed to provide for their children.
Depending on how society looks in a thousand years, that person could have a few different views and thoughts. If today's standards change in a thousand year that person could be amazed at how our social structure was. That person could also say WOW that time period was really messed up. But if society doesn't change, most likely that person will have nothing to criticize our society about.

The values that are most important to Americans today are Money, School, and a Home.  Almost all Americans would do anything for money, people feel that the meaning of life is make as much money as possible. Most, if not all Americans find it important to do well in school, if you don't do well in school then you can't get a good job. Finally, all anyone wants is a big and fancy house to show off to thier friends, and enjoy all of their material possessions rather than spiritual ones.
